Logo Critique

1. The Harley Davidson logo is basic, original, but cool. No matter if you see just the shield, you still know what it is. The colors are awesome. They stand out on one another. I researched and found the orange color stands for cheerfulness and energy while the black stands for excellence and elegance of the company. I want my logo to have the same feel!  Any biker would know what this logo is whether it be from close up or far away and that's the goal of my logo as well.

2. The Polaris company is widely known as well, but more for snowboarding and ATV's. They do sell some motorcycles too. It's very simple. I don't know if I like the colors and if i saw that circle with the start in it, I wouldn't be able to tell what it is without the name. So I wouldn't say their logo is effective by any means to bikers.

3. Honda Performance is another company that sells motorcycles and motorcycle parts. I don't know for sure if this is the same as the Honda dealerships with the H logo, but this logo is cool too. The wings stand for fast performance which makes sense because it's for a performance bikes and not luxury cars. I don't think this logo is effective to the means of my companies audience.

4. BMW sells motorcycles too, but mainly crotch-rockets. So it's along the same lines as a motorcycle company. According to this website, "the logo shows a propeller in motion with the blue part representing the sky. This is due to the company’s role of building aircraft engines for the German military during World War II." So that is pretty neat. Same concept applies here, that I don't think this logo if effective for bikers.

5. And the last company is cycle exchange here in Tampa. They aren't that popular so I just searched for motorcycle dealerships in Florida and this one popped up so I figured I'd use it since it's along the lines of what I'm doing. The logo is plain and alright. I notice the cycle symbol which probably means to recycle because their motto is "buy here, save here." So it's kind of creative and cool. This logo could be effective for people who are looking for a used bike just to start off with, but probably more towards the younger crowds just starting out. Not towards the old folks like my parents.

Company Ideas

5 Logo Ideas for a Company
  1. My first logo idea is for a wine company, thanks to the help of my neighbor. She gave me some great ideas and some funny and kind of inappropriate slogans. First, I would want to draw an elegant wine bottle in a thin line. When I think of wine, I think of classy women all sitting around and talking. Or like I did once, sitting around and painting. I want my design to be unique, timeless, and durable for any product it is printed on. Some slogans we came up with are: "Whiner's Wine", "Bitch now, Wine later." They're funny, but not something I would want to use if I'm trying to sell my product.
  2. My second idea was for a boxing gym. I go boxing so I know the basics of what a boxing gym would want. I was considering using the logo my gym has now, but I want to created my own and maybe they can use it for their gym too! So I would maybe use some boxing gloves or a hanging boxing bag or maybe even a fist. Like Arm & Hammer symbol. But maybe just the front of the fist? I'm still messing with ideas for now. And a slogan that I saw on Pinterest that I would like to use is, "When life gets tough, put on your boxing gloves." I know it's long, but I want something along the lines of that saying.
  3. A third idea was for a new motorcycle club. My parents and neighbors all have choppers and Harley Davidson's so they suggested that I should come up with a logo and name for them. And maybe one day, they'll start their own company and use my design for patches, jackets, shirts, etc. I would definitely use the outline of a motorcycle because I feel like that's the most obvious thing to use when referring to bikers. My parents and all their biker friends are all Catholic and they want the cross incorporated in the design as well. And they already thought of some names for their club "Blessed Hogs", but maybe they would consider changing if I came up with one that involves the logo too. Like "The Holy Choppers" or something with the words relating our religion and motorcycles.
  4. My fourth idea is for a hat company. We see hats everywhere so something memorable as a logo. Like Polo Ralph Lauren, when you see it, you automatically know what it is. But that would be challenging to come up with a hat company that everyone recognizes.
  5. And my last idea, which is my favorite so far, is for a tattoo company. I love tattoos and the art of tattooing. I think it's awesome! I don't have any tattoos, but I'm getting one soon!! Tattoo companies have  signs, stickers, shirts, business cards, etc. So my design would have to be in enough detail to be small to where you don't lose all of the detailing by shrinking it, like mentioned in class. I want to use a tattoo pen, with swirls around it and have it took like its tattooing the name of a company. Almost like it's writing the company's name.

Who doesn't want to know about Meghan? ^_^

About Meghan

As you can tell from the title, I am Meghan, Meghan Dodds to be exact. I am a sophomore at UT and an Ad & PR major. It took me a while to figure out my major and I'm still not even 100% sure if I want to do this. My first major was Nursing, which wasn't the best idea. I took anatomy, failed the class and now I completely regret staying in the class instead of dropping. My GPA is super low and I'm doing the best I can to do good in every single class I'm in. So then I switched my major to business management, I didn't really take any major business classes, but I did take Microeconomics and I passed with a B in the class. So that wasn't too bad. But over summer, I found my strength in creativity and artsy things. I've always loved making art, in no specific area. I like painting, dancing, coloring, etc. But my favorite form of art, is working out. I'm a girl and people under estimate the power of a girl a lot. I go boxing and kickboxing everyday and train like a fighter. It's nice and relaxing to go when I need a break from reality. It helps me take a break from my work and breathe. I am also involved in Athletic Marketing here on campus. Being in this organization also helps me take a breather from school.  I honestly love what I do in my life. I have a good balance of school, working out, job and hanging out with friends.
I took this class because it counted toward my major, but since I'm an artistic type of person and everything is going digital, I hope to learn a lot of technique from this class to land a job in the future. Such as advertising! I once met with the VP of marketing for the Tampa Bay Lightning and he was telling me that all of the banners around Tampa were made by their department. And I'm sure the people working under him have to have the technological skills to make those players look good and advertise throughout Tampa. It was awesome meeting him and I hope the skills I learn in this class will help me to Intern with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Tampa Bay Lightning!
